2011 Calendars

I have completed a couple of 2011 calendars. The first one features new images I have created since last year. The second one is a series of flower borders with solid color blank fields for the addition of one's own texts. On Zazzle, one can add customized text and choose font, text size and color, and placement. One can use these tools to add one's own inspiring quotes and sayings. These can include song lyrics, poems, and prayers. One could choose a Christmas carol for December, a patriotic poem for July, and a psalm of thanksgiving for November. Use your imagination, and have fun with it.

You can look at my list of inspirational texts which I have used with my illustrations as a starting point for your collection. If you want me to add a border using another type of flower, let me know. I have a nice one using butterlfies as well. I would be happy to make up the texts myself if you just want to tell me what to include.

Christmas Ornament

I am now officially in the Christmas ornament business. Zazzle has started making them and to kick things off has a design contest. This is my entry, but I have added several others to my store as well.

Pomegranate Mandala Array 1 with Chinese Proverb

I posted this as an illustrated thought of the week on Tidbits from Tucson, but add it here so that I can reference the text and expand our list of Chinese proverbs.

Gratitude Message from Ben Franklin

This line star is made with foliage lines I am using in a Christmas Cactus array, so I am not offering it as a finsihed product; I include it here to present the Ben Franklin quote.

Cicero Gratitude Message

I did this as an illustrated thought of the week as posted to my Tidbits from Tucson blog. I include it there so as to reference the quote. I will use it for a Thanksgiving card design.
This may seem to be an overstatement, but it works for me as my interpretation of Genisis is that God gave us a perfect universe and we said, "No thanks, I can do better." The story is not just about the creation of this planet, but of the cosmic creation as a whole, and ingratitude was the original sin. God is patiently waiting for us to realize that we can't do better, but we steam on with more and more extemes in our attempts to prove we can.

2010 Christmas Cards-Part 2

I finally identified the plant used in these designs. It is an iceplant and it is a succulent. I doubt anyone has ever used it to make a Christmas card before, but I think it works.
The image at the top is what I call an array. It can be used as a horizontal card with the Christmas messages on the inside.
Next year, I will make a set of design with Christmas carols. This one with Silent Night is a first installment.
I will be making this into a You Tube video set to the music of Silent Night.
Cards can be ordered individually through Zazzle, or I can have larger orders printed locally. I can also do box sets that include the last tow year's designs.
The card with the Merry Christmas greeting is referenced first, then the same image with the Season's Greetings message, then the composite design, followed by the frame with just flowers, and the combo frame with foliage and flowers, and finally the array. Silent night is a new text. I can do other Christmas carols on request.

Christmas Card Demo-Part 1

One of our residents in the board and care home, gave us a succulent plant which I have not yet identified. It is growing well, and with its red and green colors; it has inspired me to use it for my 2010 Christmas card design. I am giving you an opportunity to follow along with this little demo of how the design is created. I will add to this as the work progresses.
The bottom image shows a star made with a combination or flowers and leaves. The next image shows a cluster of the star shaped flowers layered for a traingular cutout. The following pictue shows the star completed from the cutout.
I then show you another flower arrangemnet and the cutout created. You can then follow along with the development of the complex star.

Chinese Proverb 3 with Flower Stars

The bottom image features Chinese proverb 3, the top is number 4. Number 3 is paired with a flower star made with nightblooming cactus flowers. Number 4 star is made with cholla and prickly pear cactus flowers.
At this point, I am not cataloging the flower stars. I intend them to be elements in larger designs. If you want one by itself you can ask for it, and I will be happy to make a print or whatever you like.

Emerging Sunflower Video

I eventually want to animate my mandalas. My first you tube video is a step in that direction.

Chinese Proverb 2 with Cosmos Polygon

I am posting Illustrated Thoughts of the Week on my blog, Tidbits from Tucson, on Sundays. I am reposting it here so as to catalogue the text and image. I used the cosmos polygon in one of the flower composites I used in the placemat series preceding this post. The polygon will eventually be used in a mandala and/or array. It can, however, stand alone.

Scriptural Placemats

A friend asked me to make placemats with scriptural passages on them. I made a set of 6 with the texts in flower frames and added matching composite images for the flip side. Many variations on this theme are possible.
