JUMPING CHOLLA COMPOSITE 1

This is our first composite using the Jumping Cholla Cactus Flowers. I have paired it with a Goethe quote, but it can stand on its own or be combined with any number of other sayings. Suitable as a print or poster, and cards.

JUMPING CHOLLA FLOWERS

These are the strikingly beautiful flowers of the Jumping Cholla Cactus. When I first came to Tucson, it was explained to me that this cactus is so named because it seems to jump at you to stick you with its thorns. The thorns have a nasty fish hook kind of barb on the end which makes it painful to pull them out. All the more reason that I was surprised to see their gorgeous flowers.

The other thing which struck me when I first came to the Sonoran Desert was that cactus flowers like this one have a waxy coating which helps hold in the moisture. Nature is so ingenious! When I first came to Aumega House, Jon had some of these cactus outside his kitchen window. He could look at their blooms while he washed dishes, and pointed them out to me. He suggested that I should take some time to absorb their color. That was my initiation into his ideas around the healing influence of color. Combine such inspiring color with the delicate form of the flowers, and we have a true Divine gift.

Last year, when I started taking photos of our spring flowers; I missed the Jumping Cholla. I have waited all year to be able to take these pictures. The cacti along our front fence, gave us a profusion of blossoms this year for the first time; so my wait was rewarded.

These are "extracted" images, and I will begin to use them to create various designs in combination with other images, but I wanted to share my enthusiasm for these with you as soon as possible. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

LORD'S PRAYER WITH OLEANDER BORDER

This is a better fit for the oleander border. We have a prayer begging to be displayed with flowers. If you prefer a different flower border that can be done. There are many versions of the prayer, and if you prefer a different one, I can accomodate that as well.
Good for prints or cards.

OLEANDER MANDALA 1 WITH TEXT

Here, we present a mandala made with oleander blooms. It is paired with the Spanish injunction, "Go with God." I have always thought that to be such a beautiful way to say goodbye. Good for poster or prints with or without the text, and also good for cards.

PINK OLEANDER BORDER 1 WITH LOMBARDI

This quote really is out of place in this border, but it is a good saying and I am looking for a way to introduce it.This border is better suited for a short poem, Irish blessing or other longer saying or quote.

PINK OLEANDERS COMPOSITE 2

Let's revisit our pink oleanders. This composition of blooms is set over a background made of oleander foliage forming a repeating pattern. The text doesn't necessarily fit the image that well, but it serves to extend our stock of quotes for use with these designs.

Suitable for small or medium size prints or cards.

CELTIC KNOT MANDALA 2 WITH NASRUDIN

This image was designed for a t shirt, but it could be adapted as a card. For backgorund info, see the Brightlight Mandalas site.

I had seen this quotation before, but recently ran across it online as attributed to Jim Horning. On Wikipedia, he says that it was orignally by Mulla Nasrudin as best he can tell.
